Dear HPISD Parents & Staff,
Spring is here and with the season comes the potential for severe weather. Our campuses are reviewing their weather emergency procedures and we wanted to share the following information with you:
If a tornado warning is issued for our area during school hours, our campuses will shelter in place and students and staff members will be situated away from windows and doors. For safety reasons, campus doors will be locked and students and staff will remain sheltered until the warning is lifted.
Due to the dangerous conditions during a tornado warning and because the doors will be locked, we ask that parents not come to campus until the warning is lifted. Instead, please find shelter until the dangerous weather has passed.
If severe weather occurs, HPISD will communicate with parents through its emergency text-message system to:
- Announce when a tornado watch occurs.
- Announce when a tornado warning occurs (lock doors and shelter).
- Announce when the tornado warning is lifted and students are released.
For more information regarding HPISD's emergency texting system, click here for parents and students, and click here for faculty and staff. Community members can also receive updates by following HPISD on Twitter@hpisdschools.
If severe weather causes any school-sponsored activities, games, practices or after-school care to be canceled, an update will be posted here.
