Highland Park ISD is aware of Governor Abbott’s executive order that goes into effect next Wed., March 10, 2021, rescinding the statewide mask mandate. At this time, the district plans to continue to follow its current safety protocols at least until Spring Break.
The Texas Education Agency is expected to provide additional guidance this week on how the executive order may impact schools. Once that guidance is received, HPISD’s Reopening Committee will meet to discuss any possible changes to district protocols. We recognize that there will be many diverse opinions regarding this executive order, both from staff members and parents, and we do not want to rush any decisions without carefully considering all of the possible ramifications.
As has been said since the beginning of planning for the 2020-21 school year, the health and safety of HPISD students, staff, families and our community is our top priority. We also want to continue to be able to provide in-person instruction and extracurricular activities safely with a minimal number of students and staff having to be quarantined.
We will keep you updated. Thank you for your continued support of HPISD.
