DLC takes next step in adopting a new District of Innovation Plan

The District Leadership Council (DLC) took the next steps for Highland Park ISD to pursue a new District of Innovation Plan, which will allow HPISD to retain greater local control over several existing state statutes. HPISD initially adopted a District of Innovation Plan in 2017 that will expire at the end of this school year. In order to be able to continue to be considered a District of Innovation, the district has developed a new five-year plan.

Comments regarding the proposed District of Innovation Plan will be accepted through an online form available through the DOI webpage now through 5 p.m. April 5.

The DLC is comprised of community members, parents, students, teachers, and administrators, and the council has identified the following five areas for HPISD to gain greater local control:

  • First day of instruction
  • Teacher certification
  • Class size limits in grades K-4
  • Probationary contracts for experienced teachers (new)
  • Campus behavior coordinator (new)

The proposed plan in its entirety, the list of the DLC members, current timeline, district FAQ with more information about the five identified areas of innovation and a form for public comments are posted on the district's website at www.hpisd.org/DOI/.
