Science team wins TMSCA State Championship

The HPHS math and science teams took first place in Science, second place in Mathematics, fourth place in Calculator and sixth place in Number Sense in the 5A division at the Texas Math and Science Coaches Association (TMSCA) State Championship Meet March 20.

  • Top Chemistry and Physics
  • First Place, 11th-grade Number Sense
  • First Place, 11th-grade Mathematics
  • First Place, 11th-grade Science
  • Second Place, 11th-grade Calculator
 
Luke Ting
  • First Place, 9th-grade Science

Weitao Shi
  • First Place, 10th-grade Science
 
Michelle Xing
  • Third Place, 10th-grade Mathematics
 
Geoffrey Son
  • Third Place, 12th-grade Science

In the grade-level Top Gun competition:
 
  • Joyce Jiang took fifth place in 10th grade
  • Justin Li took first place in 11th grade, and Alyssa Wang took sixth
  • Parth Nandekar took second place in 12th Grade and, as a senior, he will receive a TMSCA scholarship
 
The math team is coached by HPHS math teacher Andy Speir, and the science team is coached by chemistry teacher Wenzen Chuang who currently serves as the High School Director on the TMSCA Executive Board. 
 
The team members and coaches would like to thank the parents and community members who generously donated time and money to the HP Academic Scots Booster Club that provided partial funding for the teams.
