Play-off update: 3 teams headed to Regionals and 3 headed to State

Gymnasts head to state championship meet

 
The Lady Scots gymnastics team placed second at Regional Championships April 13-14 and have qualified for the Texas High School Gymnastics Coaches Association State Championship meet to be held April 27-28 at Trinity High School.
 
Freshmen Ana Simpson and Lily Ford and Junior Captain Kennedy Downing led the team during the two-day regional competition.
 
Simpson was the highest-finishing gymnast for HP, placing second on Floor, fourth on Vault and Beam (tie), ninth on Bars and fourth All-Around.
 
Ford placed fourth on Beam (tie), fifth on Floor 10th on Vault, 10th on Bars, and fifth All-Around.
 
Downing placed seventh on Vault, eighth on Beam, third on Floor, and seventh All-Around.

The boys team also took second at Regionals and are state-bound April 27-28. The top three finishers for the team were:
  • Clayton Staunton - First place, every event and the All-Around
  • John Sartain - Fifth All-Around
  • Xander McLendon - Seventh All-Around

3 Scots wrestlers headed for state tournament

 
The Scots wrestling team placed fifth at the Regional Championship meet April 16-17, and three team members will advance to the UIL State Tournament April 23 at the Berry Center in Cypress.
 
State qualifiers include:
  • Henry Hoy: Regional champion in the 170-lb. class
  • Cooper Chapman: Regional champion in the 106-lb. class
  • Jake Waskey: Regional runner-up in the 120-lb. class
Carter Barden (160-lb) and Tom Porter (138-lb) both took fifth place at the regional meet.
 

Scots tennis sweeps district tournament

The Scots took both first and second place in every event at the district meet April 5 and 8, and will send 16 team members to compete at the Regional Championship tournament April 27-28 at the Melissa Sports Complex:

Lady Scots track & field wins area meet, gears up for regionals

 
The Lady Scots track and field team won the area round meet April 17 and qualified team members to compete in 14 events at the Region II meet April 23-24 at Maverick Stadium at the University of Texas at Arlington.

  • First place: Meredith Sims - 11.91 (New School Record)
Long Jump
  • Second place: Raina Pietrzak - 16’ 11 ½” 
  • Third place: Hattie Speicher - 16’ 11 ½”

  • Second place: 1:46.14 - the team of Katelyn Tanner, Kate Rossley, Abigail Schott and Raina Pietrzak

  • Third place: Ailey Fidler - 9’ 6”

  • First place: Elle Thompson - 60.69 
  • Second place: Izzy Blaylock - 60.83

  • First place: Savannah Hinze - 48.46

Flying Scots qualify 3 team members to compete at regionals

 
Three members of the Running Scots boys track and field team has also qualified for the region meet April 23-24 at UT-Arlington:
 
200 M Dash
  • First place: John Rutledge - 21.3, currently the fourth-fastest time in the state
 
100 M Dash
  • Second place: Grayson Schrank - 10.8
 
Pole Vault
  • Third place: Catcher Murphy
The top two finishers at the Regional Meet will qualify for the State Meet May 8-9 in Austin.
