Trustees thanked for years of service
Outgoing trustees were also recognized at the May meeting. Former Board President Jim Hitzelberger who served as a trustee since 2009 and former Board Secretary Lee Michaels who served since 2015 received framed resolutions acknowledging their contributions, commitments and service to the HPISD community and students.
Hitzelberger joined the Board of Trustees in 2009 and served as its president since 2017. He played an integral role in the effort to build new facilities for HPISD students, initially working with the district’s Facilities Advisory Committee, then chairing the board’s Facilities Committee and serving on the Design and Construction Committee, which provided oversight to the 2015 bond program.
Michaels joined the HPISD Board of Trustees in 2015 and served as the School Board Secretary since 2017. Until last year, she was the liaison to the schools’ PTAs. She also chaired the Education Services committee and was the board representative on Park Cities HOPE, the Park Cities’ mental health task force. Most recently, along with fellow trustee Tom Sharpe, she was a member of HPISD’s Fall Reopening Committee during the pandemic.
