Mercedes Trent to lead Lady Scots golf program

Mercedes Trent comes to HPISD from Hebron High School, where she taught PE and led the girls golf team to the 2021 UIL 6A state championship. She previously served as a social studies teacher and assistant boys and girls golf coach at Lewisville High School.

Trent earned a bachelor's degree from Dallas Baptist University, and she holds certifications in 7-12 Social Studies and EC-12 Physical Education. As a collegiate athlete, she posted a total of nine NCAA Division II tournament wins and was named an All-American at the 2012-13 Division II National Championship, where she placed in the top 15. While a student at Colleyville Heritage High School, she won the 2010 UIL 5A individual state championship.

"We are thrilled to bring Coach Trent’s expertise as a coach and past player to our Lady Scots golf program," HPISD Athletic Director Johnny Ringo said. "We are excited that Coach Trent will have the opportunity to add to HP's golf legacy, taking us to new heights in the years to come!"

“I feel very blessed to be the head coach of the girls golf program here at Highland Park," Trent said. "I have played the wonderful game of golf from the age of 10, and this sport has given me and taught me so many things. I look forward to sharing my passion and lessons learned with the young ladies who come through this program in the years to come. The golf programs here are full of history and tradition, and I look forward to working alongside the parents, players and administration to continue to elevate our girls golf team and add to the legacy.”

Trent married her husband Carter in 2013, and they have a one-year-old golden retriever named Marshall.
