HPISD received Advanced Placement exam results for AP tests administered in May 2021 to 1,248 Highland Park High School students who completed 3,189 AP exams. The percentage of graduating seniors in the class of 2021 who scored a 3 or higher on at least one AP exam during high school increased in HPISD from 78 percent in 2020 to 84 percent in 2021.
As part of the AP exam results, the College Board acknowledged the following awards to HPISD students:
- 227 AP Scholars (students who receive scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP exams)
- 84 AP Scholars with Honor (students who receive an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more exams)
- 87 AP Scholars with Distinction (students who receive an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more exams)
SAT scores for the class of 2021 were also recently released. Highland Park ISD’s average composite score is 1,296 compared to the national average of 1,060. Last year the HPHS composite score was 1,281. The SAT test is scored on a 1,600-point scale. Compared to peers, a greater percentage of HPISD graduating seniors in the class of 2021 who took the SAT at any point during high school met college-ready benchmarks. According to the 2021 SAT report, 90 percent of HPISD students are college-ready compared to 35 percent of Texas students and 46 percent across the nation. SAT test components include Evidence-Based Reading and Writing and Mathematics.
