Each week, HPISD will feature STEAM and Moody Institute initiatives, activities and classroom lessons that illustrate the various opportunities students are exposed to that expand their learning. From engaging in hands-on activities and experiences to learning from professional experts through guest lecture series, these programs foster critical thinking and problem-solving skills that prepare students for college.

Entrepreneurial experiences
The HPHS on-campus coffee bar Scottie Joe’s is in the final stages of preparing for its grand opening later this semester. Students in the 18+ and MAPS programs began their training using the new equipment and brewing up some tasty beverages as they get ready to open.
Robotics gears up for young learners
The new Raider Robotics Club continues to gather STEAM. Students are adding various mechanical attachments and sensors to their rovers and are creating tracks to test and race their creations.
Architect expert leads lesson
BOKA Powell Architect Miranda Anhalt spoke to the MAPS Environmental Architecture class at Highland Park High School as an outside expert lecturer. Anhalt helped students gain a better understanding of model building and its role in effective design.
