University Park Elementary student Douglas Cooper was presented with a certificate of achievement and a framed copy of his artwork "Olympic-Inspired Kimono" that was selected for the cover of the 2021 Annual Comprehensive Finance Report (ACFR) during the December 2021 school board meeting.
Cooper’s artwork was part of a class project. UP art students learned that at the recent Tokyo Olympics, one kimono was designed and created to represent each country participating in the Olympics. Students then chose a favorite city, state or country to visually depict on a paper kimono. Cooper used colored pencils on the kimono in his piece, and the background is a print using tempera paint and a Gelli Plate.
