4 HPISD athletic programs advance to regional playoffs

Soccer teams advance to regional playoffs April 8

 
The Lady Scots won their regional quarterfinal round playoff game against Joshua April 1, bringing their season record to 23-0-2 overall.

The team will advance to the semifinal round of the UIL 5A Region II Soccer Tournament to face Frisco High at 1 p.m. Friday, April 8 at Standridge Stadium in Carrollton. The championship game will be played at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Tickets to attend the UIL Region II 5A Soccer Tournament are available online only, $18 for adults and $5 for students. Standridge Stadium has a Clear Bag Policy and does not allow any outside food or drinks.
 
The Scots defeated Longview 5-2 in their regional quarterfinal playoff game, bringing their season record to 19-2-3 overall.

Lady Scots gymnasts win 9th consecutive district championship

 
HPHS Girls Gymnastics head to regionals 2022
For the ninth year in a row, the Lady Scots are district champions after sweeping every individual event title and the All-Around March 30.
 
Sophomore Lily Ford was crowned the District Beam Champion, District Floor Champion, and District All-Around Champion. She also tied for third on vault and placed fourth on Bars.
 
Senior Captain Kennedy Downing was crowned District Vault Champion scoring a nearly perfect 9.95 on Day 2 of competition. She placed second All-Around, just 0.1 behind her teammate Lily. She also placed second on Floor, third on Bars, and third on Beam. Kennedy was honored at Senior Night on Day 1 of District Championships. She has been a part of the Highland Park Gymnastics program for six years and served as Captain for three of those years.
 
Senior Captain Linda Tran was crowned District Bars Champion. Linda tied for third on Vault, tied for third on Floor, was fourth on Beam, and placed third All-Around. Linda was also honored at Senior Night on Day 1 of Districts. She has been a part of the Highland Park Gymnastics program for four years and served as Captain for two years.
 
Sophomore Ana Simpson placed second on Vault, Bars and Beam, third on Floor, and fourth All-Around.
 
The Lady Scots finished in second place as a team and qualified to compete at the Regional Championships hosted by Heath High School April 11–12.

Scots sweep district, advance to regional tournament

 
HPHS Boys Gymnastics head to regionals 2022
 
The Scots gymnasts had a big meet March 29-30, winning the district championship over Lakeview, Garland, Irving Nimitz and Irving McArthur.
 
Clayton Staunton won the All-Around and all seven individual events, remaining undefeated all year. Junior Austin Chapman was second All-Around and on Pommel Horse, Rings, Parallel Bars and Horizontal Bar.

Lady Scots win district championship

 
HPHS Girls Golf qualify for regionals
 
The Lady Scots golf team finished in first and second place at the District Tournament March 29-30. The team is now headed to the Regional Tournament after a first-round team total of 310 and a second-round team total of 305. All 13 team members played incredible rounds of golf.
 
The Lady Scots were led by senior Sophie Biediger who won the individual medal with rounds of 68-74. Coming in second place was sophomore Landry Saylor and in third place was freshman Grace Heiss.
 
Juniors Olivia Coker and Indie Lane qualified for regionals as medalists.

The Region II 5A Tournament will be held April 20-21 at the Rockwall Golf & Athletic Club.
 
First Team All-District honorees include Sophie Biediger, Landry Saylor, Grace Heiss, Claire Wiebe, Tatum Thomason, Iris Song, Daisy Murphy, Katherina Chen and Olivia Coker. Second Team All-District included Allison McCain, Indie Lane, Jordan McGinley and Piper Holdridge.
 
 

Scots golfers dominate district tournament

The Scots golf team battled wind and rain to finish first and second at the District Tournament March 29-30 at Rusted Rail. 13 team members competed, and HP took the top 13 spots. The top two teams and top two individuals on non-advancing teams qualify for the Regional Tournament, and the Scots got all 12 spots.
 
Christian Clark claimed individual honors with rounds of 72-68 - he won district as a freshman and now again as a senior. Freshman Charles Nelson finished second overall with rounds of 72-72.
 
The Region II 5A Tournament will be held April 18-19 at the Rockwall Golf & Athletic Club.
 
The team set the tournament record with a +9 two-day total of 569 to claim top honors by 21 shots in the Vernon Newsom Memorial hosted by Mansfield at Walnut Creek March 26. Joe Stover led the way with rounds of 70-67 to claim medalist honors and Brooks Simmons won a scorecard playoff for second place with rounds of 72-69. Christian Clark 72-72, Preston Cooper 73-79 and Martin Kemp 82-74 rounded out the lineup for the Scots.
 
The team would like to thank all of the parents, siblings, and HPISD Athletic Director Johnny Ringo who came out to support the team.
 

Scots tennis players qualify for regional tournament

Scots tennis team members swept first and second place at the 13-5A District Championship Meet March 29 at the Samuell Grand Tennis Center. In spring tennis, players compete as individuals, and the winners and runners-up from the district meet will advance to the Region II meet April 12-13 at the Zplex Tennis Village in Melissa.
