The Hyer community officially cut the ribbon on the new Robert S. Hyer Elementary School during a special open house and dedication ceremony April 10. HPISD Board President Tom Sharpe, City of UP Mayor Thomas H. Stewart, Superintendent Tom Trigg and Hyer Elementary School principal Debbie Burt, spoke about the school’s legacy and the future the new campus holds for its students.
The dedication ceremony started with the Pledge of Allegiance led by Cub Scout Pack 84 followed by the Hyer school song performed by students under the direction of Hyer Music Director Adrienne Conklin.
Superintendent Dr. Tom Trigg thanked various groups for their support and contributions throughout the process of rebuilding Hyer. “We have an absolutely stunning school that captures the look and feel of the original building,” said Trigg. “Thank you to the Hyer Legacy Committee for providing counsel to our architects to help retain the school’s unique character, keeping Hyer Hyer. The new Hyer will serve the children of this community well for decades to come.”
Board President Tom Sharpe echoed Trigg's sentiments. "This is an incredible building that is going to serve the Hyer Huskies until the end of this century." Said Sharpe. "I couldn't help but think that buildings such as these don't just happen; they take a shared vision, followed by a commitment and shared work by many people."
