Highland Park High School teams came home with two gold and two silver team medals from the 2022 UIL 5A Academic State Meet, held May 5-7 at the University of Texas - Austin.
The Science team took first place team honors, with Justin Li placing first, Michelle Xing placing fourth, Luke Ting placing fifth and Joyce Jiang placing sixth individually.
The Mathematics team also took first place as a team, and Justin Li, Andrew Li and Michelle Xing swept the first three individual places.
The Social Studies team placed second as a team, with Dalton Burford finishing in fifth place and Benjamin Sumner in sixth place individually.
The Number Sense team finished in second place, with Justin Li placing first individually.
"Our UIL Academic teams' success at the state meet is one more example of what is possible when a group of highly talented and motivated Scots join together and work under the guidance of dedicated coaches," HPHS Principal Jeremy Gilbert said. "I know I speak for the entire Highland Park High School family when I say that we are all incredibly proud of their hard work and the outstanding way in which they represent our school and our community."
The Science team is coached by HPHS chemistry teacher Wenzen Chuang, the Mathematics and Number Sense teams are coached by math teacher Andy Speir, and the Social Studies team is coached by social studies teacher Temple Truax.
