Two trustees sworn into office, Trustee Herring retires from board service

HPISD Trustees Sworn-in May 2022

Lee replaces Edward Herring who did not seek re-election. The swearing-in for Place 4 candidate and incumbent Jae Ellis has been postponed pending the outcome of a petition for a recount.

Following the swearing-in ceremony, the board unanimously elected Tom Sharpe to serve as Board President. The full list of officers and their positions include:

  • President: Tom Sharpe
  • Vice President: Maryjane Bonfield
  • Secretary: Bryce Benson
  • Finance Officer: Doug Woodward
  • TASB Delegate: Ellen Lee
  • TASB Alternate Delegate: Doug Woodward
Outgoing Trustee Edward Herring was thanked for his six years of service on the Board during the meeting. Prior to being elected to the Board, he was appointed to the district's Finance Committee in 2014. Following the approval of the bond election in 2015, he also became a member of the Design and Construction Committee, then was instrumental in the planning for this past fall's voter approved golden penny election, which is responsible for the 3 percent raise staff received this year and the 5 percent increase trustees just approved.
