HPHS senior John Rutledge won the silver medal in the boys 200 meters at the 2022 UIL 5A Track and Field State Championship Meet.
Rutledge finished the year breaking a 58-year-old school record and broke the state record at the state meet May 13. HPHS Junior Luke Herring also qualified for the state meet. He placed sixth in the 300-meter hurdles, also breaking his own school record with a time of 37.52.
"Rutledge was the regional champion in the 200, posting the state’s fastest time going into the state championships," Head Coach Todd John said. "And he currently holds the nation’s third-fastest time. He will continue his athletic career running track at the University of Texas next fall."
