HPISD student Yihan Li was recognized at the Sept. 13 School Board meeting as the winner of the 2022 HPISD Birthday Card Cover Art Contest held over the summer. Yihan, now a fifth-grader at McCulloch Intermediate, designed a cover when she was a fourth-grade student at Armstrong Elementary. She used colored pencils and marker to create the “Heart with Flowers” drawing. The art contest is held each summer and is open to HPISD students at all grade levels.
Yilan attended the board meeting with her mother Ruijing Li. The recognition presentation included a certificate of achievement, a framed rendering of her award-winning artwork and copies of the card.
Every year, Superintendent Dr. Tom Trigg sends a personally signed birthday card adorned with student-designed artwork to every one of HPISD’s 800-plus employees on their special day. This year that card showcases Yihan’s beautiful artwork.
