MIS/HPMS Instructional Assistant Shannon Howerton was presented with a special holiday surprise Dec. 6. In the spirit of giving, 94.9 KLTY and North Texas Chevy Dealers presented a brand-new Chevy Equinox to Howerton. His colleague and former teacher, MIS fifth-grade theater teacher Genevieve Croft, nominated him as a potential recipient of the gift. Croft and Howerton would frequently carpool together on their way to and from campus. She believes that with this gift, Howerton will be able to further serve the needs of his students while he pursues his teaching certificate. “I’ve known Shannon for about 10 years. I’ve known him as a high school student, as a college student and as a colleague,” said Croft. “He is really the most selfless person that I have ever met. He will donate time and anything else he has to help students.”
Howerton has had a year full of surprises recently receiving a Heart At Work award from the district. He aspires to further his education by following in Croft’s footsteps in becoming a theater teacher. With this being the first vehicle Howerton has ever owned, he recognizes the flexibility that this will give him in his professional career. When reflecting on the generosity of the gift, Howerton notes how thankful he is to have had an educator who has made such an impact in his life. “It's just amazing to work with her day in and day out,” he said. “I would never have expected this from her. There is no greater friendship that I have than Genevieve Croft.”
