Two HPISD Destination Imagination teams will advance to the 2023 Lone Star Finals March 24-25 at the University of Texas at Arlington. Six teams from HPISD's five elementary schools attended the Texas Destination Imagination regional competition Feb. 11.
UP’s “Towering Tacos” and Hyer’s “Candy Queens” will advance to the Lone Star Finals competition. They are among the approximately 475 Texas Destination Imagination regional winners advancing. The UP second-grade Destination Imagination team, “The Towering Tacos,” won first place in the Community Service division. The Hyer third-grade Destination Imagination team, “Candy Queens,” also took first place by engineering a rollercoaster and presenting a skit.
The overall regional competition results for the six HPISD Destination Imagination teams include:
- Boone - third place team, fourth place team and 14th place team
- Hyer - first place team and 11th place team
- UP - first place team
Texas Destination Imagination is a school-based program devoted to helping students gain practical life skills through interesting, entertaining and mind-boggling challenges. The program is created and guided by parents, educators and community volunteers who support the art and skill of creative problem-solving. Approximately 20,000 students in Texas participated in Destination Imagination this school year.
