Student leaders from across DFW gathered together at Park Cities Baptist Church Feb. 21 for the seventh annual DFW Student Leadership Forum. The forum, titled “Race to End Racism,” helps open up a dialogue for students to discuss how they can work together to impact issues related to race in a positive way.
The event was organized by Highland Park High School Student Council members and welcomed a diverse group of youth leaders from area high schools. Cynthia Marshall, CEO of the Dallas Mavericks, was this year's featured guest speaker. Marshall shared her personal leadership experiences and how students can make a difference in the world today.
HPHS Student Council Executive President Jackson Heis reflected on the importance of the event, “What makes this event special are all the different backgrounds and perspectives.”
Leaders were given the opportunity to form small groups with students from various schools in order to demonstrate their own points of view. “There is a lot to learn from everyone here, so it is important to keep your mind open. Every person brings something new to the table,” said Heis.
