The Highland Park Special Olympics teams competed in the Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD Annual Special Olympics Track and Field Meet March 23. Athletes competed in a variety of events, and everyone received medals for their amazing performance. HPISD schools celebrated the student-athletes, like the Boone Elementary Bulldogs who lined the hallways to cheer the athletes on to victory the morning they left school to attend the meet.
Highland Park Special Olympics hosted the Area 10 Special Olympics Basketball Tournament at HPHS and HPMS March 24-25 in which 93 teams competed over two days. The HP teams coached by Scott Miller, Joan Sizemore, Hannah Reynolds and Tyson Peterson all took home medals. It was a great season for the Scots as they competed in two tournaments and participated in an individual skills competition.
The Special Olympics track and soccer teams have started practicing for their season, and students can come out and volunteer at the practices. Track practices are at 5 p.m. Tuesdays at the middle school and soccer practices are at 5 p.m. Wednesdays at the high school softball field.
Thank you to all those who support our awesome HP Special Olympics athletes. Contact Tyson Peterson if you would like to get involved.
