Former Town of Highland Park Mayor Margo Goodwin and Town of Highland Park Management Assistant Holly Russell presented HPISD with custom-designed podiums handcrafted from the grand old pecan tree that stood on Armstrong Parkway at Preston Road for more than 104 years. The magnificent pecan was known as the Million Dollar Tree. Removing the tree was necessary nearly two years ago for safety reasons because of its large size and fragile state.
The March 28 podium special delivery began at Armstrong Elementary. HPISD Board President Tom Sharpe, Trustee Jae Ellis, Superintendent Dr. Tom Trigg and Armstrong Principal Betsy Cummins officially accepted the generous gift. Each HPISD school and the HPISD Clements Leadership Center will be homes to the historic podiums for many years to come.
